Please check local regulations for: Loch Lomond and The Trossachs National Park
Beinn a’ Chroin is a craggy, multi-topped mountain in the grand chain of Munros that tower over Glen Falloch in the Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park. Along with An Caisteal, it is part of a complex massif that’s also connected to Beinn Chabhair in the west and Cruach Ardrain in the east.
It is often ascended via the summit of An Caisteal, creating an expedition on two of the most dramatically-titled Munros in the region: the ‘Mountain of Danger’ and ‘the Castle’. From the rocky outcrops that characterise its summit is a stupendous Highland panorama that includes Ben Nevis and the Lochaber Hills in the north and the Trossachs to the south.
A wonderful, craggy peak in the characterful Crianlarich group
These are popular peaks thanks to their relative proximity to the Central Belt and there’s plenty of accommodation in Crianlarich or along Loch Lomond. Routes to Beinn a’ Chroin can also be accessed by train, as Crianlarich is on the West Highland line.
There are a number of ways to approach Beinn a’ Chroin, with routes via An Caisteal from Derrydarroch Farm the most well-trodden. Another option is a slightly wilder route via the Munro of Beinn Chabhair, starting from Beniglas Farm. The final approach from the west involves a short, easy scramble before the prize of the summit is attained. A more rugged ascent can be made by following a track from Inverlochlarig along the River Larig and ascending the mountain’s rough southern slopes.
Beinn a' Chròin is a 3,089-foot (941 m) Munro in the Scottish Highlands. From An Caisteal, a path weaves its way up the west face of the mountain through the crags.
It's a fun little scramble. The true summit of the mountain is often disputed, there are many tops along the long summit ridge. I had fun standing on all of them!

An easy short scramble to this Munro. The true summit seems to have been disputed, but should be the first cairn to reach. If in doubt visit them all!
