Peaty, pathless and peaceful – those are the words you could use to describe this Munro, which stands at 3,537 feet (1,078 m), just south of Loch Lyon. The mountain sprawls, spreading itself out and linking to its neighbouring Munro, Creag Mhòr, via Lochan na Baintighearna. Beinn Heasgarnich’s summit views are extraordinary but as much of the route is pathless and filled with peat hags, it’s a challenging adventure.
No matter where you begin, you have a lengthy walk-in before you. The most common starting point is in Glen Lochay, where you can park just before the public road ends to the east of Kenknock Farm. You can then continue along the private road on foot and head north alongside Innisraineach Burn. The terrain is a mixture of track, and grassy and craggy mountainside with pathless sections. When you reach the summit, you’ll find a large cairn and a fantastic mountain panorama in every direction.

Beinn Heasgarnich is a 3,537-foot (1,078 m) Munro in the Scottish Highlands. I approached it from Creag Mhor and descended to the east of the mountain over wet, rough, pathless terrain. There were a couple of steep/peat hag sections to get around before reaching the tarmac road (unsuccessful trying to hitch hike on this road back to Kenknock but it was worth a try!) It was also my 30th Munro.

Beinn Heasgarnich is a big sprawling mountain with lots of peat bogs, but also fine views to the Bridge of Orchy hills.
