The Linthwerk had a hybrid model test (numerical and physical model) carried out at the Research Institute for Hydraulic Engineering at ETH Zurich for the widening of the Hänggelgiessen river and the diversion structure for the overload case on the Linth Canal. The model was presented to the local authorities of Schänis and Benken, approved and built.
When pouring hanging gel, the bed of the Linth is shifted from the deepened Linth Canal into the dam stretch above the Linth plain. This is where the generous widening is located, which is important for renaturation, but also enables a solution in the event of overload.

Very impressive nature reserve, created by widening the Linth Canal. It is currently partially accessible (but a ban may follow).
