Tough cobblestone climb on top of the Col du VAM. Throughout Drenthe there are decades-old cobblestone strips, or rather flints, as the cobblestones are called here. This strip uphill is of course quite new, but no less fun. Just try it once, afterwards it is always much more fun than bumping along while cycling.

This is a special one! All cobbled sections and streets (flintenwegen) in Drenthe are at least a 100 years old.

This one is just over 1 year old. And it's not only it's age that makes this 'keienweg' special. It's also the only cobbled climb(!) in The Netherlands. A little bit of Flanders Classics in the heart of Drenthe.

For those who don't know, the VAM berg was part of an old garbage dump that was for many years closed off to the public, except for that one day in the year when the 'Ronde van Drenthe' cycling race came by and organizers opened up the 50 meter high mountain for the race.

Since 2019 the VAM berg has been opened to the public with a whole parcours of asphalt climbs, descents, MTB tracks going up and down, and, indeed, on this one particular climb you can take the road to the left, climbing your final stretch to the top on cobbles!

Cool segment, steepest part of the "mountain" I think. According to the information sign at the bottom it will go up to 15%. However, it's quite short.
