Fantastic hike through the Ilsental in the footsteps of Heinrich Heine. The food at the Waldgasthof Plessenburg was delicious and filling (plessenburg.de/). In a small but fine hut, we were lovingly cared for by a young landlady with cocoa and coffee. In the National Park House Ilsetal we were then surprised by a climbing wildcat.
Incidentally, the Bavarian Wolpertinger is called “Rasselbock” in the Harz Mountains.

Of all the trails that lead to the highest peak of the Harz, the Heinrich Heine Trail through the scenic Ilsetal in my opinion the most beautiful. The famous poet chose this route in 1824. The scenic route leads along winding forest paths through the Ilsetal to the Ilsefälle and further up to the Brocken.
