So....
The Gauss Grotto is named after a son of the well-known mathematician Carl Friedrich Gauss (1777-1855). Gauss Jr. lived in Hamelin on the Breiter Weg. He had this forest path, which was once named after him, laid out on the south side of the Klütberg.
