A small town on the beautiful lake Tiken. Surrounded by beautiful nature. Right on the lake is a very nice campsite ... boating, canoeing, fishing, swimming, hiking, camping, wild camping ... u.v.m. there is to experience. A few miles further is the Åsnen.

The first settlements of Tingsryd took place in the 16th and 17th centuries in the area where the river Bräkneån flows into the lake Tiken. The first sawmill, tannery, mill, smithy and some other activities were built here that depended on the power of Bräkneån. From this area grew the houses along Storgatan, which then formed the country road that connected Tingsryd with the surrounding villages and downtown Växjö. In this area the first major industry, Tingsryd's brewery, was later established. Nearby were also the village's larger farms, which were landowners in the village. The area is still important for the cultural-historical environment in Tingsryd.

Tingsryd was a small village in Kronoberg County until the construction of the Bredåkra-Tingsryd's Railway (BTJ) in 1896 and Växjö-Tingsryd's Railway in 1897. In the 20th century, it was the railway traffic and the activities around the station area that everything developed from. The residential area was built from Järnvägsgatan to Storgatan, which was still a country road until the 1960s. Passenger traffic on the railway was stopped in 1965 and the tracks were demolished in 1969, but the station building is still Tingsryd's travel center for bus traffic. Bus traffic is dense towards Växjö, but also towards Karlshamn and Ronneby, but less dense. When the railway was closed and the new national road was built on the shore of Lake Tiken, society largely acquired the structure that is still in place today. Lokgatan was expanded into a secondary feeder route to further relieve the inner city of through traffic.

Tingsryds is one of the municipality's urban areas with the strongest urban environment. This is partly characterized by 19th century wooden architecture, with most of the preserved buildings located on the slope towards Lake Tiken. North of the core of the old villages, larger residential areas were built in the 1950s and 1960s, which was reflected in an increasing number of inhabitants in the urban area until 1995, but has stagnated since then.
