Fantastically remote and one of the highest mountains north of the Great Glen, Mam Sodhail (aka Mam Soul) rises to 3,875 feet (1,181 m). Often ascended along with its tremendous neighbour, Càrn Eige, this adventure is ideal for experienced mountain hikers up for a significant challenge.
Due to its extreme remoteness, the most common starting point is to the east in Glen Affric. You’ll find Chisholm Bridge car park on the banks of Loch Beinn a’ Mheadhoin from where you can head north along Gleann nam Fiadh and ascend Càrn Eige before Mam Sodhail or head west alongside Loch Affric and head to Mam Sodhail’s summit from there. The latter is the fastest but the former is the most spectacular.
The terrain is in parts boggy, grassy and rocky with some spectacular ridges. When you reach the top, the panorama is simply phenomenal with views stretching to the Isle of Skye.
Mam Sodhail is a 3,875-foot (1,181 m) Munro in the Scottish Highlands. It sits between Glen Affric and Glen Cannich. This is a remote wilderness which is not easily accessible by foot.
There is a HUGE summit wind shelter on Mam Sodhail, but the true summit is a rock by a small cairn 45 metres off to the south east of the shelter.
