Grete Minde was an impoverished Tangermünder daughter from a good family who was executed for arson. A literary memorial was erected to her in Theodor Fontane's novella Grete Minde. In the novella, after her bitter injustice has been done, she sets fire to the city of Tangermünde and dies in the flames along with many Tangermünders.
