About 1.2 km away from the Rainau-Buch fort, remains of Roman foundations were excavated as early as 1885 and were then systematically researched again in 1969. The stone foundations of 2 expansion phases of the Limes tower WP 12/77 and also a 1 m wide and at this time still about 80 cm high wall came to light. The findings were then conserved and the wall reconstructed in 1970 to a total height of 3 m.In the vicinity of today's wooden replica of the Limes tower, a total of 3 construction phases of the Limes towers and the border fortifications could be proven: A first tower, which stood a few meters away from the wooden Limes palisade, was erected around 165 AD. In the subsequent expansion phase, this was then replaced around 180-190 AD by a stone tower with a floor plan of 6.5 x 5.5 m, whereby the wooden palisade remained.Towards the end of the 2nd or beginning of the 3rd century AD this tower was demolished again and a new one was built almost directly above it

The reconstruction of the Limes tower in Rainau-Buch and a piece of the Limes wall, which has been reconstructed in its entirety, gives visitors an impression of what the former border system looked like. Experience the Limes up close when you visit a replica watchtower with the possibility of a great all-round view of the Ostalb.schwaebischealb.de/instrumente/limesturm-rainau-buch#/article/268e7e2e-1770-4139-bd21-53e638c2a65e
