The Sibillini Mountains are a spectacle of nature, when you arrive on the plain of Castelluccio by climbing the Forca di Presta you are amazed by the wonder of this place every time.

A must for those who love the Sibillini located at 1,450m above sea level. The presence of man in the area has been testified since Roman times, with the discovery of some terracotta objects at the Fonte di Cancora, in the locality of Soglio. Furthermore, in the foundations of a house several Roman coins dating back to the period of the emperor Claudius the Gothic (3rd century) were found in the past centuries, and along the road that leads to Forca di Presta, the tomb of a Roman soldier was also found. The current nucleus dates back to the 13th century, although some research tends to backdate its foundation. Castelluccio was an ancient castle in the orbit of Norcia built to defend the eastern border of the pastures. After the earthquake of 30 October 2016, the town is almost completely destroyed and uninhabited. The Piani di Castelluccio (1 350 m), about 15 km², mainly represented by Pian Grande and Pian Perduto. They are famous for their flowering, i.e. the impressive flowering phenomenon which colors the plain between the end of May and the beginning of July (especially poppies, cornflowers, daisies). In 2014 it is officially celebrated in the country on Sunday 29 June.

We were up in June 2021. Hardly above and a breathtaking expanse. If you also turn up the little road stitch at the restaurants, you reach a small trattoria with wonderful cheese and salami at non-touristy prices
