In order to be able to better cover the ever-increasing demand for wood in the economy, from around 1870 the Jädkemühl forestry department began to try to cultivate foreign and non-resident tree species with the aim of comparing their vigor and wood quality with the native forest tree species. As a result of such attempts, numerous European and Japanese larches, anerican red chickfish, coastal Douglas fir, white pine, coastal fir, sitka spruce can be found today.
The plant garden contains over 30 different native and foreign forest tree species. Source: Information board at the Jädkemühl plant garden
