The Heidschnucke is an old landrace breed, which is said to originate from the mouflon native to Sardinia and Corsica. Overall, the breed is divided into 6 subspecies. For a long time now the "Gray Horned Heidschnucke" has been living on the dry heathland of the Lüneburg Heath.
