The Great Hall is similar in shape, size and structure to that of the Semperoper in Dresden.[3] This was a requirement of the client. Deep dark oiled oak dominates the interior of the hall. It contains Norway's largest chandelier, which Snøhetta created in cooperation with Hadeland Glassverk. It has a diameter of seven meters and weighs 8.5 tons; 8,500 LEDs provide the light.

The building's facade is made of 90 percent white Italian Carrara marble and 10 percent Norwegian granite, which was quarried in Rennebu. The architectural principles were unanimously praised by experts. However, the massive use of the type of marble used, for which 57 million krone (approximately 6.4 million euros) alone was spent, is controversial. Even before the opening, a large proportion of the 36,000 marble slabs had already turned a slightly yellowish color.
