The bridge was opened in 1927 as the "Hindenburg Bridge". The bridge was blown up in 1945, but opened again the following year - as the first road bridge over the Weser. Until the 1960s, the bridge was also used by the Extertaleisenbahn.

Great view from the bridge to the Weser and Rinteln. Next to the bridge is a public car park, ideal for entry into the Weser cycle path.

Over the arched bridge, which has been open to traffic since 1927, until the 1960s, among other things, the Extertalbahn railway also rolled through the middle of the city.
In April 1945, before the American troops marched in, it was blown up, but was restored as the first road bridge over the Weser in 1946. The late Classicist sandstone obelisks come from a previous building from 1847.
