Panagia tis Podithou, also called Panagia Eleousa tis Podithou ('Merciful Mother of God of Podithou'), was included in UNESCO's World Heritage List in 1985 as part of the World Heritage Site of Painted Churches in the Troodos area.

The Marienkirche is one of the barn roof churches in the Troodos Mountains and is dedicated to Mary, the mother of Jesus, as a very saint. Less than 100 m to the east is the smaller church Panagia Theotokos or Archangelos Michail, which is contained in the same part of the World Heritage Site.

According to the inscription 1502, the building was erected at the request and expense of the French nobleman Demetrios de Coron and his wife Helena. The church was part of a monastery that has disappeared today. It is surrounded by a wall; the gable roof sits on this, so that a roofed passage is created between the church and the wall.

The paintings are from the time of construction and show the influence of the Western Renaissance.
