The port of Morlaix is today a pretty little marina with around 200 berths.

In the Middle Ages, it played a strategic role for trade in Brittany. This role has been carried out by the port of Roscoff since the end of the 20th century.

The port of Morlaix is located between the mouth of the river (Morlaix) on the Channel side and the town. The current marina, which is a pleasure to visit, was put into service in 1979 and allows boats to be sheltered in winter due to the natural protection quite far from the rigors of the sea. From the summer, the activity intensifies and many boaters frequent it. Downstream locks keep the 200 boats afloat in the port at low tide. But the Morlaix river remains unnavigable at low water. The old tobacco factory houses the port services. Flowery quays and mooring pontoons give a friendly air to this place, which has a very special atmosphere. It is always pleasant to walk there and take a break on the quays with the seagulls and geese as company!!

Morlaix is a classic Breton town, built in the valley of steep cliffs with umpteen flights of steps leading down to the central port running down to the sea in the centre of the town.

The market is in the centre here that is alternatively a car park, and shops and restaurants flank the sides under quaint old buildings.

The most impressive part of Morlaix by far is the iconic viaduct, two storeys high (you can walk along the lower storey) and measuring 190 feet (58 m) high with 14 arches.
