Best Hikes to Ettaler Mandl Summit

Tips

  • You often read that you don't necessarily need extra equipment. But I would really recommend a via ferrata set including helmets to everyone, especially those who have not yet or not often climbed a via ferrata!

  • The Ettaler Mandl is a via ferrata on the last part of the rock, secured with ropes the entire way. The rocks are quite slippery in places, so I would only do it in dry weather. If you have them, you can take fingerless gloves with you, which protects your hands on the rope, but I managed without them. You definitely feel safer with a via ferrata set that you can tie on a leash, I had to go without, but that was OK for me, I wasn't alone at the top without them.

  • Very busy - this can make the via ferrata very unpleasant as it is both the only ascent and the only descent to the summit. I would therefore definitely recommend a via ferrata set.
