Best Hikes to Ashway Gap Overflow Spillway

Tips

  • The Ashway Gap tunnel was built to maintain the water supply to the mills downstream of the Yeoman Hay Reservoir. It takes water from upstream of the reservoir through a tunnel and down this channel to the Greenfield Brook. This was before Dove Stone Reservoir was constructed. Today it acts as a relief channel diverting high flow from the reservoirs. It's a spectacular sight during the winter and at periods of high rain.
