The Wahnbach, which runs entirely in the Bergisches Land region, originates from its northeastern source stream of the same name southwest of Pfaffenscheid, a western village in the Drabenderhöhe district of Wiehl. From there, the Wahnbach flows along State Road 189 through the Much districts of Loßkittel, Roßbruch, Amtsknechtswahn, Wiese, and Bennrath. Afterward, it is dammed between Sommerhausen and Kreuzkapelle, after the Altenhegersiefen flows into it on the left, forming the Herrenteich, the largest body of still water in the municipality of Much. The stream then passes Herchenrath and Hillesheim, where it flows into the Markelsbach on the right.
