The Wahnbach, which runs entirely in the Bergisches Land region, rises with its eponymous, north-east source stream to the southwest of Pfaffenscheid, a western location in the Drabenderhöhe district of Wiehl. From then on, the Wahnbach along the Landesstraße 189 passes the Mucher districts of Loßkittel, Roßbruch, Amtsknechtswahn, Wiese and Bennrath, after which it is dammed after the left-hand confluence of the Altenhegersiefen between Sommerhausen and Kreuzkapelle to Herrenteich, the largest still water in the municipality of Much. Then the brook passes Herchenrath and Hillesheim, after which the Markelsbach flows on the right.
