The waiting room of the JKB (Jülich District Railway), Königshütte, is still preserved. It was very run down after the last renovation in 1985. The Dorfgemeinschaft Zukunft Kirchberg e.V. association has taken on the task of restoring the building.
A parking area for bicycles has been set up in front of the building.
You can take a break here during your tour.

        Kirchberg station
        Former station
Two railway lines met in Kirchberg, the DB and the Kreisbahn. Kirchberg station thus served as a transfer station for goods and a transfer point for passengers. It also had the still preserved Kreisbahn waiting room (Königshütte) and the larger DB station building.
The 27.6 km long Aachen Nord - Jülich line was built in the 1870s by Aachener Industriebahn AG and nationalized in 1887. It served to connect several hard coal mines and passenger traffic and was used especially by miners. In 1980, passenger traffic was stopped, and in the following years also freight traffic. Large sections are now a cycle path.
The Jülich Kreisbahn line from Kirchberq to Puffendorf was opened in 1911 and extended to 15.2 km to Jülich Nord station in 1912. Until 1971, the district railway's passenger traffic was mainly used by schoolchildren and commuters to connect to the then district town of Jülich. The busy freight traffic, including
beet transport to the sugar factory in Jülich, decreased since the 1970s and was discontinued in 1999.
The tracks are still in place today along almost the entire route.
