The cathedral of Trani, whose official name is the Cathedral Basilica of Santa Maria Assunta, commonly called of San Nicola Pellegrino, is the main Catholic place of worship in the city of Trani, in Puglia, mother church of the archdiocese of Trani-Barletta-Bisceglie and, since 1960, minor basilica.
It is one of the most significant examples of Apulian Romanesque architecture. It has been repeatedly defined as “the Queen of the Cathedrals of Puglia” and is also a highly appreciated destination for cultural tourism.
Its construction is linked to the events of San Nicola Pellegrino, dating back to the era of Norman domination.
