On the northwest corner of Vejle's oldest house is the medieval church Sct. The monument to the historian Anders Sørensen Vedel (1542-1616) stands at the Nicolai Church. The historian's two and a half meter high granite statue stands on a pedestal about one and a half meters high.
The monument was created by sculptor Povl Søndergaard (1905-1986). The historian's emblem is engraved on the pedestal with images of godliness (incense), health (flowering herb) and time (the snake biting its tail). The symbols were carved over Vedel's door at his residence on Lilje-Berg in Ribe, and they can also be seen in Tobias Gemperle's portrait painting by Vedel from 1578.
