In the past, the Briedeler boys piled up the Martins fire on this rock head in the vineyards, which then blazed high above Briedel on the fair on Saturday, the day of the patron saint of the Briedeler parish church of St. Martin. In the meantime, the Martins fire was moved to the opposite side of the Moselle.
The vineyards were better developed as part of the land consolidation. Today you can easily hike or drive to Martinslay.
In 2004 the community built a viewing pavilion in this beautiful location. From here you have a beautiful view over the town and the church of St. Martin into the arch of the Moselle and further into the forests of the hiking area Briedeler Switzerland. Some winegrowers offer wine tastings on the Martinslay in the summer months.
