Hiking Highlight
Another visit not to be skipped is that of the so-called Torre degli asinelli. However, you must first obtain a ticket at the Check point located in the main square just in front of the Basilica of San Petronio, as the daily visits in this period are staggered and in addition you need the Green Pass. In any case, you can only visit one tower because the other is under renovation. To get to the top there are only stairs, no lift so there are quite a few steps. However, it is definitely worth visiting and at the top you can enjoy an excellent view.

The two best-known (and most crooked) Bologna gender towers.
In the 12th and 13th centuries, many towers were built in Bologna, probably as a defense and defense. Builders and owners were the richest families in the city. Supposedly the number was up to 180 towers. Nearly 20 towers are still preserved today.
The tower Asinelli has a height of 97.20m and a slope of 2.20m, the tower Garisenda is strikingly crooked. Today it has a height of 48m and a slope of 3,20m.

The Garisenda Tower differs from its "elder sister" in its lower height of only 47 meters and is mainly known for its steep inclination, which can be attributed to subsidence and the slacking of its foundations. For this reason he was also mentioned several times by the poet Dante Alighieri in the Divine Comedy (Hell, XXXI canto). The tower's height was reduced to its current 47 meters in the mid-14th century for fear of future collapse, while the current building is undergoing several renovations and repairs.
