The Auersberg area was a favorite hunting ground of Saxon Electors, who especially followed the red deer and grouse here.
The pastor Christian Gottlob Wild reported that was still around 1800, an ascent to the Auersberg as an adventure. An already under Elector Johann Georg I of Saxony in the 17th century built because of the view wooden scaffolding with several sheds on the tower called the tower survived only a few decades and were no longer available in 1791. From a report of 1726, however, it is clear that the wooden tower was not about the beautiful view, but about observational purposes in wartime races [4].
Thus, in 1860, the Royal Saxon State Forest Administration decided to bring granite stones to the mountain and took over the costs for the construction of a stone tower. The first observation tower in the Erzgebirge was inaugurated in 1860 and is thus considered the oldest stone lookout tower in the Erzgebirge
