The Iron Spring or Red Spring is a natural monument. The Iron Spring is located in the foothills of the northern Steigerwald, northeast of Wonfurt, on the left bank of the Main at 216 m above sea level. It is a spring funnel that is raised by calcareous tufa deposits. The mineral content of the spring, which discharges an average of around 15 l/s, is brought in by deep water that can rise from a fault in the Middle Muschelkalk. The stream that rises is channeled into a basin for treading water and flows into the Main after around 250 m. Red iron hydroxide is deposited in the bed of the outflowing stream. (Wikipedia)
