Suddenly you are standing in the middle of a carpet of bright reindeer lichen. Here on the Fuchsberg, the highest elevation of an inland dune, a special type of vegetation has developed. After "preliminary work" by pioneer plants such as silver grass or sand sedge, a lichen pine forest was able to develop on the poor and dry soil. Beautiful to look at, but unfortunately endangered by atmospheric nitrogen emissions. Therefore, the areas on the Fuchsberg are under very special protection.
