A good 150 years ago, the "Witches' Tower" in Lindheim was one of the most famous creepy walls in Germany.
It is about the darkest chapter in the long history of the picturesque town, from the years between 1634 and 1664, when around two dozen honorable citizens were executed here for witchcraft. It's more about the years 1663 and 64, when a cruel and greedy bailiff named Geis terrorized the population.
In these 9 months alone, 20 innocent victims had to die after being tortured, sentenced and imprisoned in this same tower.

The "Lindheim Years of Terror" took place in the 17th century, as the Protestant pastor Otto Glaubrecht (pseudonym for Rudolf Oeser) describes this time of witch mania in his 1850 book. Citizens were imprisoned in the tower, which was part of the former city wall. Within 9 months, 20 innocent people were hanged or beheaded on the spot and then burned.
The local carnival club is called "Lindheim Witches", which can be interpreted in all directions.
