When the Swedes and the other war peoples had moved away from the Isarwinkel and the peasants wanted to catch their breath, the great death came in. No one was allowed to enter the Tölz market, not on foot or on horses. Not even the toes on the electoral box were allowed to be driven. For the first time, the subjects of the four quarters would have liked to have done it. All trade and change ceased. Everyone was afraid of his fellow man. The annoying addiction resided particularly in the Wackersberg district. People locked themselves in their houses and only the gravedigger did more work. Of course, he hardly knew what to do. The people fell over like flies and he buried them on a fief in a wild courtyard because there was no more space near the church. It is also said that the dead were brought there from the market.
In this emergency, the von Tölz and von Wackersberg promised to celebrate St. Sebastian's Day forever in the entire parish and the Wackersbergers vowed to build a chapel for the saint if he would stop death through his intercession. When the great death really stopped, the Wackersbergers began to redeem their vows and looked for a place down by the stream where the saint should get his new house. But when they cut down the trees, the logs were all bloody. Pigeons flew up and carried them in their beaks down the stream into the wild Freithof.
That is why the church was built in the plague cemetery.

Over 300 dead Wackersbergers who fell victim to the plague have since been resting under the hill in front of this venerable little church. The vow of 1634 to hold a thanksgiving service in this chapel on January 20th (Sebastiani) has been faithfully kept to this day.
Even after it was built, numerous legends about the haunted souls of the plague victims shone around this building. The windows should be lit by candlelight at night, which goes out by itself in the morning hours.
The peace of this plague chapel was shamefully disturbed in 1976 when common criminals robbed and plundered this church. To prevent this from happening again, no more valuable furnishings were placed in this church.
