The Smokkelpad combines nature experience with living history. This path has an appropriate name. In the past, especially during and after the Second World War, various items were smuggled across the border. Customs officials patrolled both sides to catch the smugglers red-handed at night and in fog. There are countless stories about this. Some are interesting, others quite gruesome. All this is told in a historical display erected at the former border.

The Smokkelpad runs through meadows and fields, along a ditch and through forests. It is 2.6 kilometers long in total and can be explored on your own or with a booked guided tour. The paths are signposted and many information boards have been placed to explain the animals and plants that grow there.

On the "smuggler path", the experience of nature combines with living history. The “Smugglers' Path” is rightly named. Because in the past, especially in and after the war, coveted goods were smuggled over the “green border”. Customs officers patroled on both sides to catch smugglers red-handed at night and in fog. There are numerous stories about this. Some are chuckles, others more scary. All of this is told in a historical review that was set up on the former turnpike.
