It is assumed that the first mill, or rather grinding facility, was built at the current location of the Herrenmühle perhaps as early as the 12th or 13th century.
Before 1541, a board mill is mentioned in Neukirchen that cut boards for the Chemnitz monastery as a contract work. This was almost certainly the first mill at the current location of the Herrenmühle.
Flour was milled until 1967, after which only wheat, rye and barley were milled to grist quality.
Milling operation until 1991, after which only contract work. In 2002, the Herrenmühle ceased operations.
