The bicycle and pedestrian path on the Richmond-San Rafael Bridge, inaugurated in 2019, is a new route across the Bay. This path ensures a safe ride by being completely separate from car traffic, giving cyclists and pedestrians great views of the San Francisco Bay as they cross between Marin and Contra Costa counties.

After many years of lobbying by bike associations, on November 16, 2019, the bicycle and pedestrian path across the Richmond-San Rafael Bridge opened, enabling cyclists and pedestrians to take in breathtaking views of San Francisco Bay while traveling between Marin and Contra Costa counties.

Cycling

It is great to be able to cross the bridge by bike and you are safely separated from the cars. However, there is still quite some traffic noise while riding the bridge, which makes it a bit less enjoyable.
