Very nice castle located above Heimbach.
The castle was first mentioned in 1106 as the property of the lords of Hengebach. The castle later fell to the Count of Jülich. In 1687 the castle fell victim to a fire. The restorations started in 1904 were destroyed in the Second World War and later resumed. The keep, the remains of the palace and the castle walls have been preserved from the original castle. The castle was rebuilt in 2009 and has been used as an art academy ever since.

Hengebach Castle is located in Heimbach (Eifel), a town in the Northern Eifel, above the Rur in the Düren district, North Rhine-Westphalia.
The Höhenburg is a 216 m above sea level that rises freely from the Rurtal. NN high mountain ridge built oval ring castle from the 12th to 14th centuries. The western courtyard of the 12th to 13th centuries with the keep / palace combination forms the core of the complex. The eastern part of the castle complex belongs to the expansion of the 14th century. These include the forecourt of the castle, the gardens and the kennel. Hengebach Castle was built in the 11th century on a gray rock. It is one of the oldest buildings in the Eifel. Over the centuries, the historic walls have had an eventful history. Various rulers once lived and ruled on the fortress. The lion of the Jülich family of counts still adorns the coat of arms. The courtyard rooms with rampart and keep are accessible all year round.
