Unfortunately, only a third of the original construction has come down to us, since the entire head and part of the naves collapsed, possibly in the 11th century, apparently due to land displacement caused by a nearby stream. At present, after the excavations carried out throughout the last century, we know not only the part that still exists, but also its entire original floor plan.

The pre-Romanesque church of San Miguel de Lillo (in Asturian, Samiguel de Lliño), dedicated to San Miguel Arcángel, built by King Ramiro I on Mount Naranco, in the surroundings of Oviedo. It is located a few meters from Santa María del Naranco. Possibly it is the one that, according to the Albeldense chronicle, this monarch ordered to be built next to his palaces, with the function of a palatine church. In principle it could have been dedicated to Saint Mary and Saint Michael.
