Scudellate is a district of the former municipality of Muggio at 904 m asl. and an impressive example of a linear settlement crouched on a steep slope with terraced fields down to the valley and meadows on the mountain side. The history of its population was shaped not only by agriculture and seasonal emigration, but also by the proximity of the Italian-Swiss border, which encouraged intensive smuggling. The proximity to the border allowed Scudellate to establish a privileged relationship with the village of Erbonne, which in turn was a district of San Fedele Intelvi in the province of Como, where mainly Ticino families lived. To this day, Scudellate and Erbonne are not only connected by a footpath and bicycle path, they also have a large part of their history in common.
