The footpath to Monserrate is open daily except Tuesdays from 5:00 AM. It takes approximately one hour to climb the 1,500 steps.

At the top, you'll be rewarded with a fantastic view over the Sabana de Bogotá.

      Bogota
Well I am on a bit of a walkabout in Bogota in Colombia. This morning I did the Monserrat Monastery hike on the edge of the city. For me that means I walked 2ks to a bus stop, caught three buses across town and then did the Monserrat hike. It’s very similar to the Pen Y Fan main tourist route in Brecon in regard to length and height gain. Three kms one way with 500m of ascent instead of 440 on PYF. Except this is from 2,600m to 3,100m. That means you lose 25% of your lungs. A decent hike though but the monastery is not that special. Especially when your doing it with 10,000+ people (honestly). Took me an hour. Slow with the crowds and it was hot. Then on the way down there was a horror hailstorm and it was freezing! Then to cap it all off on the way back on the bus there was a bit of a physical argument between some passengers and one of the bus drivers, the police got called onto the bus, more shouting etccc🤦
      Anyway something a bit different.
