Stadtkyll was first mentioned in a document as a church property in Cologne in the middle of the 13th century. In the period that followed (around 1292), Stadtkyll quickly gained importance with its walls and castle. Since the stones of the city wall were used in the reconstruction after fires and wars, the old city wall disappeared completely.
