Planned around 1500 as a three-aisled hall church in Buchholz, construction was stopped in 1523. It was only between 1874 and 1877 in the Neo-Gothic style that it was extensively rebuilt and expanded. On February 14, 1945, it burned down in an air raid.
Reconstruction took place in 1975. The most valuable piece of equipment is a winged altar by Hans Hesse from around 1515.
