The ring wall began next to the first castle gate, fell steeply down to the valley to just above the Hansen-Mortier souvenir shop, rose again, forming an obtuse angle, to the upper town gate at the exit of the then main street, “Op dem Pawä”, now known as Alte Gasse, and then fell in a semicircle around the entire south side of the town to the bridge. A second part of the town wall also began at the castle, namely at its north-eastern outer wall, and from there ran steeply down towards Hockelsley, but did not reach the bridge and formed a closed ring with the semicircular wall around the town.
The ring wall was connected to flanking towers, which were spaced at irregular intervals from one another due to the terrain's defense. There were twenty such towers: one square, 15 semicircular and 4 fully round. The semi-circular towers were too open on the city side to prevent the conquerors from entrenching themselves inside. The five full towers, on the other hand, were equipped with a guard room on the upper floor. Each had its own name, which we know from the accounts of the count's rent collectors from the first half of the 17th century and from manuscripts in the municipal archives.

Walk besides the old towers and wall with spectacular view of the city and the castle.

The path along the circular wall is closed in the southern area from the playground, the wall is likely to break off.
