The Red Mill is not just a cycling destination. The walk is fun too. But then you should not be on the weekend to avoid stress with the many cyclists.
As befits a ferry house, you can also invest as a rower.
If you want to stop by, you should note that the excursion restaurant is only open during the season, ie from 1st April to 31st October. Better to check the website before:

Top location right on the Ruhr - a very nice rest stop - especially nice on the terrace over the Ruhr.

The stop is definitely worth it. In good weather you can sit in the wonderful beer garden, right on the river bank and have a wonderful view of the Ruhr. The kitchen is simple and of good quality. The prices are reasonable.

Not just for a stop on the tour - well worth it for an extra visit to eat, drink and relax.

Baron Bernhard von Vittinghoff called Schell had a grinding mill built for the manufacture of gun barrels in 1685. In 1752 it was converted into a grain mill. The first tenant was the miller Johannes Rohmann. Opposite the mill (right side of the Ruhr) a stone rest house was built in 1752 because "the boatmen were not allowed to drive on the Ruhr at night". In 1774 a baron von Schell had a lock built on his own account for coal shipping on the Ruhr.
