The Grenspoel is a fen on the border of Drenthe with Friesland. In wet periods, the Grenspoel is full of puddles of water. Staatsbosbeheer hopes that the puddles will remain standing by letting the Vledder Aa meander. The area can still become very dry in summer.
The heather is kept free of grass, trees and shrubs by a large flock of sheep.
