The pilgrimage church of St. James, St. Lawrence and Holy Cross in Biberbach, Bavaria, is a significant Baroque building from the late 17th century. It houses the “Herrgöttle von Biberbach”, a Romanesque wooden crucifix dating from around 1220 that has been venerated since the 16th century.

      History:
The parish of Biberbach has existed since at least 1141. The current church was built between 1684 and 1697 under the direction of Pastor Anton Ginther to accommodate the growing number of pilgrims.

      Architecture:
The church is characterized by its Baroque architecture with magnificent stucco work and frescoes. The interior is richly decorated and reflects the artistic diversity of the Baroque period.

      Pilgrimage:
The pilgrimage to the “Herrgöttle von Biberbach” has a long tradition. The crucifix came to Biberbach in a miraculous way in 1525 and has been venerated by believers ever since. The pilgrimage reached its peak in the 17th and 18th centuries and still attracts numerous pilgrims today.

      Current information:
The church is open to visitors and offers regular services and spiritual events. Further information on opening times and events can be found on the official website of the Biberbach parish.

The Biberbach pilgrimage church is an important example of baroque sacred architecture and a place of living religious tradition in Bavaria.
