Scheggino is a municipality of 455 inhabitants in the province of Perugia along the Valnerina.

Scheggino is a triangular-shaped hillside castle, crowned at the top by the keep of the ancient fortress.

The town stands on the left bank of the Nera river at a narrowing of the river valley, giving the Scheggino castle the function of guarding an obligatory passage of the ancient Valnerina road.

The area further upstream, immediately below the keep called "capo la terra", is the oldest part protected by the medieval walls. Going down towards the valley, along the narrow streets surmounted by stone arches, you reach the sixteenth-century village which extends alongside the canal that fed the ancient mill.

At the two ends of the town are the city gates, Porta del Pozzo and Porta Valcasana. From Porta Valcasana, crossing the park and the fishpond of the same name, rich in spring waters and today used for sport fishing for trout, you reach the "Via del Ferro", the road used for the transport of materials from the mines and ironworks, which from Scheggino it reached Monteleone di Spoleto crossing the naturalistic area of the Coscerno-Aspra Park. The route was once used for seasonal migrations linked to the transhumance of the flocks that headed from the mountains towards the plains of Lazio and Maremma. The truffle is the flagship of Scheggino, the first company for the conservation and the processing of the prized underground mushroom: try the “truffle snails”.

The clear waters of the Nera river offer the gift of the tasty Valnerina trout.

Scheggino is an Umbrian town located in Valnerina, along the banks of the Nera river. The village retains its ancient appearance with stone houses and the artificial canal that crosses it. Beyond the Porta di Valcasana there are gardens and an equipped area ideal for a break and drinking fresh water from the spring that flows directly from the ground near the restaurant.
