On August 11th and 12th, 1904, the decisive battle between the German colonial power and the rebellious Hereros took place on the Waterberg. After that began what historians call the first German genocide. 2,000 German soldiers armed with cannons and machine guns faced tens of thousands of Hereros. However, these were not up to the German weapons technology and were pushed under the commanding General von Trotha into the waterless Kalahari, where they died of thirst. The few fallen German soldiers are buried in the cemetery, where there is a joint German-Namibian memorial service every second Sunday in August. (See umfulana.de/namibia/orte/654515-waterberg)

Impressive, historically very significant, even if one wonders why there is only a side note about the much higher number of Herero victims.
