Reininghausen is a district of the city Gummersbach.

After 1450 the place was mentioned for the first time in a document: "Konnegundis to Reynickhusen" 'as well as her brothers and sisters belong to the wax coins of the Cologne Apostelstift.

Historians see Reininghausen as an old Saxon settlement, which should have been around 800 by the time of Charlemagne.

The village Reininghausen belonged until 1806 to the imperial rule Gimborn-Neustadt. After belonging to the Grand Duchy of Berg (1806-1813) and a provisional transitional administration, the region came in 1815 to the Kingdom of Prussia due to the agreements reached at the Congress of Vienna. Under the Prussian administration of the place first belonged to the district Gimborn (1816-1825) and then to the district Gummersbach in the Rhine Province.
