    The "Shiroyama Park" extends over the "mountain Shiroyama". The 107-meter-high mountain was once the site of a fortification that led to its name. »Shiroyama« literally means »castle hill« in Japanese.

    The park is famous for its observation deck with spectacular views of Kagoshima Bay and the Sakurajima. The best view of the volcano.

    The park is also historically a very interesting place, since in 1877 the last battle of the "Satsuma rebellion" was held. The samurai and leader of the rebellion "Saigo Takamori" is said to have led his last fight here in the "Saigo Cave". Saigo's death ended the Satsuma Rebellion.
