Path network with panorama - In the south of the cities of Herten and Recklinghausen, new horizons literally open up. The unobstructed panoramic view from the plateaus of the Hoheward dump over large areas of the Ruhr area is impressive, as is the view from the balconies along the balcony promenade of constantly changing sections of the surroundings. The center and landmark of the landscape park is the 170 hectare and 151 m above sea level. NN high Halde Hoheward, poured from 180 million tons of tailings. Transformed into an unusual leisure and cultural landscape, it is an "outstanding" place in the Ruhr Metropolis. The central theme on the heap is horizon astronomy. The conditions here are ideal for observing the heavenly cycles and the stars. The two astronomical plateaus of the horizon observatory and the sundial illustrate this area of knowledge as daily and seasonal calendars.Another attraction is the Dragon Bridge, which connects the district park in Recklinghausen-Hochlarmark with the Hoheward dump. In order to develop the landscape park, the so-called ring promenade will be closed around the Hoheward heap, which bundles all the pathways. In the southern former track bed, the Aktiv-Linear-Park is being built over a length of around 1.4 km with ecological and leisure-active areas for people and nature.About halfway up the heap, the six-kilometer long balcony promenade has been created within the forest belt, which circles the heap at a constant height. Together with the serpentines on which the dump plateaus can be climbed, a broad network of trails has been created, which enables a variety of leisure uses (including a mountain bike route).Source: Regional Association Ruhr
