Tazio Giorgio Nuvolari (Castel d'Ario, 16 November 1892 – Mantua, 11 August 1953) was an Italian racing driver and motorcycle racer. His sporting career spanned thirty years from 1920 to 1950, with an interruption of more than six years due to the Second World War. The career of the man who will be remembered by the press and enthusiasts with the pseudonyms of "Flying Mantovano" and "Nivola", was anything but downhill. In the first years of racing Nuvolari had to overcome many difficulties and chase for a long time those successes that didn't want to come.

Nuvolari is universally recognized as one of the greatest drivers in the history of world motor racing and is still remembered and admired today for his many special qualities, as well as for his human qualities.

The statue of Tazio Giorgio Nuvolari in San Quirico d'Orcia is a monument in honor of this famous Italian motorcycle and racing driver from the 1920s and 1930s. The monument was erected relatively recently, in 2011. Nuvolari, nicknamed the “Great Mantuan”, was a friend of Enzo Ferrari and winner of many races in Italy. It is located in San Quirico d'Orcia, because one of his "Thousand Mile" races passed through this city. On Tazio Nuvolari's grave it is written: "The last of the greats, the first of the moderns."
