Laubeshütte Shelter

The Laubeshütte is the highest point in the municipality of Oberland am Rennsteig, at 830 m above sea level, on the municipal borders of Piesau and Ernstthal.In 1594, the present-day Laubeshütte was depicted in the Pfinzing Atlas as an ornate half-timbered house. The original name, "Laufshütte," is derived from "hunter's slang." A Lauf is a fenced-off area during a main hunt where the shooting takes place.The complex must have been very spacious, as it served as the summer residence of the court of the House of Saxe-Altenburg. The Duke often stayed there. The permanent resident of the house was a forester and innkeeper.

The short detour (100 m) to the attractive vantage point "Frankwald view" is worthwhile.
